The Revolutionary War in 1800’s Essay

Write two one-half page essays (300-400 words) and two one-page essays (500-600 words). You will submit all 4 essays together as one document. Use Times New Roman, Font 12, one-inch margins.

Write your essays in a Word document or similar program. If using Word please eliminate the space between paragraphs by going to Home to Paragraph (click on little arrow at the bottom right of the Paragraph tab) and check “Don’t add space between paragraphs.”

Put your name and the title “Exam I” on the top line. In your text, do not repeat the question at the beginning of the essay, simply put Question A1 or Question A2, etc. Do not plagiarise. It’s best to indicate where you found the information in the textbook by using parentheses (Tindall, 431), for example.

If you use information from outside the textbook you must cite that information. If you copy word-for-word something even from the textbook it must be in quotes and cited. Do not use long quotations, rather you should paraphrase and condense information and ideas from sources.

Question A. Select one of the following two topics and write a one-half page (300-400 words), single-spaced, font 12, one inch margin essay. 1. Compare and contrast the Jeffersonian understanding of the role of central government in the early 1800’s to the British monarchy’s understanding of the role of the central government under James II in the 1680’s.

In two or three sentences, explain which position you identify closest to and why. 2. Compare and contrast the British policy with Native Americans from 1763 to 1776 to the US policy with Native Americans from 1781 to 1811. In two or three sentences, explain which position you identify closest to and why.

Question C. Select one of the following two topics and write a one-page (500-600 words), single-spaced, font 12, one inch margin essay. 1. Compare and contrast the relationship of religion and state in the British government during the colonial era to the relationship of religion and state in the federal government after independence. In two or three sentences, explain which position you identify closest to and why.

2. Compare and contrast the military strategy used by the United States against Britain in the Revolutionary War to the military strategy used by the United States against Britain in the War of 1812. In two or three sentences, explain which strategy you agree best with and why.
