For this assignment, you will create your own origin myth for a tribe of people, explaining the origin of any created thing, custom, or journey.
This is a story, not an essay; therefore, you will need to develop characters, a plot, a setting, at least one conflict, and dialogue for your story. You can even create your own tribal name. Be as creative as possible! Use the myths we’ve already read as the guideline for your original myth.
Create Your Own Myth Requirements
Your myth should include all of the following:
Choose from the following characteristics commonly used in Native American Myths:
· The use of animals as characters, personified with human traits · The use of poetic devices such as alliteration, metaphor, simile, repetition, and symbolism · A concern with numbers, often times repeated · The use of superhuman/supernatural beings · The use of cycles (birth/death, seasons, day/night, etc.) · The female role in creation · The use of water, breath, light, or other “natural tools” used to aid in creation · The inclusion of a moral lesson · An emphasis on Native American cultural values, such as the importance of dreams, respect for the wisdom of elders, etc. |

You are expected to incorporate the writing techniques we studied into your own writing. Be sure to use imagery, dialogue, and bold action verbs when creating your own origin myth.
